6 Areas of Sustainability & Sustainable Development Goals

Written & Edited By Jenna Seigworth & Abbi Burgess

At Sustaining Way, we are committed to creating and maintaining programs that enhance systems change. That’s why we correlate our six areas of sustainability with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 current SDGs were created by the UN in 2015 to provide a blueprint for sustainability leading into 2030.

According to the UN, the SDGs “are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.” You can read more about the SDG’s here.

Sustaining Way recognizes six areas of sustainability that our programs, activities, and and education are aligned to: Food and Landscape, Energy and Energy Efficiency, Consumption and Waste, Healthy Lifestyles, Environmental Sustainability, and Social Sustainability.
