AMERICORPS VISTA POSITIONS:
“What is the AmeriCorps VISTA Program?”
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is a national service program whose members serve full-time for a year to strengthen organizations addressing poverty-related issues in communities across the United States. At Sustaining Way, members collaborate with residents, volunteers, staff, and partners to develop programs, partnerships, tools, training and other capacities that expand community opportunities and access to essential resources. Their service builds lasting capacity so this work can continue beyond their service year.
Resident Engagement & Leadership Pathways VISTA
What you’ll do: Develop systems to strengthen resident engagement and create meaningful opportunities for community members to participate in Sustaining Way’s work. You will establish processes for resident outreach, listening sessions, feedback, advisory and Steering Committees, neighborhood association coordination, and community asset mapping. You will create tools to track resident and partner relationships, referrals, opportunities, participation, and appropriate consent. You will also build a clear pathway for residents to grow from program participants into volunteers, ambassadors, Community Coordinators, advisory members, or project leaders. In addition, you will identify community partners and opportunities, develop referral and resource tools, and create systems that help residents become increasingly involved in neighborhood initiatives and community leadership.

Impact, Evaluation & Knowledge Management VISTA
What you’ll do: Help Sustaining Way understand what its programs accomplish and use that knowledge to improve its work. You will build systems to help Sustaining Way measure, understand, and communicate the impact of its programs. You will develop program logic models, establish shared performance indicators, create dashboards, and collect community baseline data to track progress over time. You will create clear data definitions, quality standards, and procedures for collecting, analyzing, evaluating, and reporting program results. You will also strengthen how the organization stores and shares information, develop planning and governance tools, and create SOPs for key processes. To ensure long-term sustainability, you will organize program knowledge and develop end-of-term knowledge-transfer systems so future staff and VISTAs can easily understand, maintain, and continue the work.

Marketing and Communications VISTA
What you’ll do: Help more residents, volunteers, partners, and supporters connect with Sustaining Way’s mission and programs. You will develop and test communications strategies, content calendars, reusable materials, and coordinated approaches to website, email, social media, and print communications. You will also strengthen shared systems for organizing contacts and communicating with different audiences. Collaborating with program and development teams, you will translate community priorities, program results, and funding needs into clear, engaging messages. Documented procedures and training will help others sustain these improvements.

Energy Burden & Community Resiliency VISTA
What you’ll do: Develop and strengthen programs that help residents reduce energy costs, improve energy efficiency, and build household and community resilience. You will create resident education, resource-navigation, and emergency-preparedness tools; develop partnerships with energy-efficiency providers and community organizations; and support planning for a Community Resilience Center. You will also build volunteer and partner resources, establish outcome measures, identify program-specific funding needs and opportunities, and create procedures and systems to ensure long-term program sustainability. You will coordinate improvements to the physical resiliency of Annie’s House with the Demonstration Site VISTA and collaborate closely with the Healthy Homes VISTA (HHV) to align resident services, education, and resources.

Community Health and Wellbeing VISTA
What you’ll do: Strengthen community-led approaches to mental and physical wellbeing. Working with residents, health professionals, and community organizations, you will identify priorities and develop resource maps, referral tools, partnerships, and reusable health education and outreach resources. You will develop a Community Health Ambassador program to expand health education and resource awareness within neighborhoods. Your service will establish outcome measures, funding materials, training resources, and documented procedures and handoff materials to ensure the work can be sustained and expanded over time.

INTERNSHIPS:
Marketing and Development Intern – Seasonal Position
The Marketing and Engagement Intern will learn underneath and support the Sustaining Way staff in carrying out Sustaining Way’s mission of empowering individuals and communities to bring about a sustainable and equitable future. This will include supporting staff in fundraising, marketing and social media, and website maintenance.
Sustainable Agriculture Intern – Seasonal Position (Spartanburg and Greenville)
As a Sustainable Agriculture Intern, this role will assist Sustaining Way staff in maintaining and developing our urban farm at Annie’s House and our various community agriculture programs and initiatives, along with teaching youth about agriculture.
