Sustaining Way holds full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions. Read below for details on upcoming open positions.

What is AmeriCorps VISTA Program?
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a program within the larger AmeriCorps network, which is a national service program in the United States. VISTA members commit to a year of full-time service to address poverty-related issues in communities across the country. They work on capacity-building projects with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community groups to create sustainable solutions to ease poverty. The focus of AmeriCorps VISTA is on building the capacity of organizations and communities to combat poverty. VISTA members work to empower and strengthen communities by improving education, increasing economic opportunities, and enhancing access to healthcare and other essential services. Sustaining Way is a VISTA Sponsor Organization. The AmeriCorps positions we have rotate every year.

Development VISTA
The Development VISTA Member will play a pivotal role in our journey toward growth and empowerment. Their primary focus will be to enhance our development and marketing efforts, forging stronger relationships with stakeholders and boosting our organizational funding. Your service will directly affect the lives of those we serve, creating a brighter future for our communities. This is a unique opportunity to use your skills meaningfully and contribute to improving Sustaining Way and our world.

Start Date: May 2025

Demonstration Site and Food Security VISTA
As a Demonstration Site and Food Security VISTA member, you will play a pivotal role in our journey towards addressing food insecurity and access to and consumption of healthy food in Nicholtown and other marginalized communities. This is a unique opportunity to use your skills meaningfully and contribute to improving Sustaining Way and our world.

Start Date: May 2025

Community Health VISTA
The VISTA project will build the capacity of Sustaining Way by helping the organization further develop community health-related programs, events and initiatives in Nicholtown and other marginalized communities. This will include facilitating a community health survey, updating the Nicholtown asset map, recruiting and coordinating community health volunteers, developing methods to track affects/measures, and increasing resident engagement in community health programs/initiatives. All while collaborating with our partners to develop innovative solutions to community health.

Start Date: August 2025

Growth and Impact VISTA
As a VISTA working on growth and governance, you will work directly with our Founder and Executive Director and play a vital part in shaping the future of our organization. You will expand our reach, maximize our impact, and help ensure strong governance. This is a unique opportunity to use your skills meaningfully and contribute to the betterment of Sustaining Way and our world.

Start Date: August 2025

Sustainable Education VISTA
During the 1-year assignment, you will collaborate with the VISTA Leader and the Sustaining Way team to develop and document our adult and youth development programs. Your efforts will be focused on increasing participation in education programs back to pre-COVID levels by the end of 2023, followed by a 25% increase in 2024. You will contribute to a 25% Year-on-Year growth in workforce and leadership development programs.

Start Date: August 2025

Community Engagement VISTA
The Community Engagement VISTA Member will build the capacity of Sustaining Way by developing and implementing community outreach efforts for the Nicholtown and New Washington Heights low-income communities in Greenville, SC. Because of the VISTA Member’s service, there will be an increased resident and partner engagement in SW programs, steering committees, and events.

Start Date: December 2024

Food Security and Agriculture VISTA
The Food Security and Agriculture VISTA Member will build the capacity of Sustaining Way by increasing resident participation in food security programs and activities, developing food security impact measures and means to track, developing/organizing processes and procedures for site and garden maintenance, increasing food security educational offerings and increasing volunteer engagement in food security related initiatives for Nicholtown community which is a historically marginalized community in Greenville, S.C. Because of the VISTA Member’s service, residents will have access to healthy fresh food addressing food insecurity in the community.

Start Date: November 2025

Sustainable Energy VISTA
The Sustainable Energy VISTA will work to improve Sustaining Way’s efficiency and effectiveness in energy-related programs in Nicholtown and other marginalized communities. The VISTA project will accomplish this by increasing resident participation in the Energy Home Visit (EHV) program and activities, developing and implementing energy-related impact measures, developing and organizing processes and procedures for SW energy programs, increasing energy efficiency educational offerings and increasing volunteer engagement in energy efficiency related initiatives.

Start Date: April 2025

Marketing VISTA
The VISTA Member will build the capacity of Sustaining Way by helping the organization further develop its marketing and development efforts. Ultimately, the position aims to increase physical and online engagement and organizational funding. All efforts will be addressed to serve the Nicholtown community, a historically marginalized community.

Start Date: June 2025

Marketing and Development Intern - Seasonal Position
The Marketing and Engagement Intern will learn underneath and support the Sustaining Way staff in carrying out Sustaining Way’s mission of empowering individuals and communities to bring about a sustainable and equitable future. This will include supporting staff in fundraising, marketing and social media, and website maintenance.

Sustainable Agriculture Intern - Seasonal Position
As a Sustainable Agriculture Intern, this role will assist Sustaining Way staff in maintaining and developing our urban farm at Annie’s House and our various community agriculture programs and initiatives, along with teaching youth about agriculture.
