Stop S.C. House bill H. 5118

Sustaining Way opposes risky
natural gas plant

Sustaining Way joined fellow S.C. conservation organizations in Columbia in February in opposition to H. 5118. The bill enables Dominion Energy and Santee Cooper to build a risky and expensive 9,000-megawatt natural gas plant, with pipeline routes threatening the ACE Basin—one of the largest areas of undeveloped wetlands remaining on the Atlantic coast.

According to a release from the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, the roughly $9 billion capital cost for the power plants would equal about $2,000 for every man, woman, and child in the state.

Sustaining Way calls on all state residents to contact their elected officials to prevent damage to the state’s natural habitats and protect consumer regulatory processes.
