2024 Roundup

As we turn the corner into 2025, we cannot help but feel gratitude to each and every person who made an impact with us in 2024. Whether you participated in our programs, followed along with us on social media, or donated your time and money, we are endlessly grateful to know and work alongside you.

Check out our 2024 Wrapped to learn more about our program participants and impact in 2024!

🎉End of Year Giving🎉

The tallies are in, and we raised $27,011 through our End of Year Giving Campaign! We are so grateful to our generous donors who made it possible for us not only to meet but exceed our fundraising goal. You can check out our campaign and learn more about our fundraising focus areas here!

🎂We Turned 13!🎂

In other exciting news, Sustaining Way celebrated it’s 13th anniversary on January 10th, 2025 ! We’ve grown extensively over the past 13 years, and you can check out our impact timeline for a brief snapshot of all that we’ve accomplished!

Sustaining Way is both proud and a bit somber to announce the departure of Oscar Bennett, who has served as our Community Engagement Specialist with passion, dedication, and humility for over four years. Oscar’s last day with us was January 17th, and he continue his impactful career with Goal Justice where he will work to organize local faith communities to address systemic justice issues.

This year, Oscar was recognized by Greenville Business Journal as one of the Best and Brightest under 35, a well-deserved honor that highlights his outstanding contributions and leadership.

The Nicholtown community loves Oscar, and his departure marks a significant moment for all of us. However, we are thrilled to see him live out the mission of Sustaining Way by carrying our values into the broader world. We are confident that he will continue to make an incredible impact in his new role. Thankfully, Oscar isn’t going too far! In addition to forever being part of the Sustaining Way family, he will now be a key partner and serve on our Steering Committee for community sustainability, engagement, and partnerships.

Volunteer Opportunities

In 2024, we recorded a total of 514 volunteer hours! That’s over three full weeks of hardworking, dedicated folks spending time in our gardens, making recipe cards, testing the Reedy River, and so much more!

🌻Volunteer of the Month🌻

We want to take a moment to recognize two volunteers whose efforts stood out in the past two months.

Grace McNair is our December Volunteer of the Month! Grace volunteered for 7 hours last month as part of a work requirement. She helped maintain the Annie’s House garden, collaborating with our demonstration site team to sheet mulch, plant, and weed.

Our January Volunteer of the Month is Courtney Austin! Courtney brought her two elementary-aged kiddos Chauncey and Chaudbrey (pictured above) to Annie’s House to learn more about sustainability and gardening! Often, they would pair up gardening gloves, sort tools, and do other small activities while spending time outdoors with our demonstration site team.
