Truth & Poverty Tour with the Poor People’s Campaign

In early May 2019 Sustaining Way co-hosted the Truth and Poverty Tour with the SC Poor People’s Campaign. The day began at Nicholtown Missionary Baptist Church with a multi-faith service filled with payers and laments from clergy of many faiths plus testimonies from our former Engagement Coordinator Ebony D. Flowers and DACA recipient Victorio Cabrera. Rev. William Barber also spoke at length about changing narratives, working together, and building power! The tour continued to First Baptist Church, Greenville where participants shared food and fellowship. The next Tour stop was Annie’s House where we heard testimonies about DACA, the history of Nicholtown, the lack of affordable housing in Greenville, and how our food systems contribute to ecological devastation. A special thanks to Margaret McJunkin from the Nicholtown Neighborhood Association. Next, the group headed back to Nicholtown Missionary Baptist Church for an organizing session. Thank you for everyone who came and participated in this important and meaningful day!
